Work Experience
Prior to Athlete’s Edge, Jen had worked as a therapist providing in-home therapy for clients in Minnesota. She then worked at Avera E-Care helping to build a program to bring virtual behavioral health services to underserves rural schools in the Midwest. Jen then worked in the clinical outpatient therapy realm at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD at the Psychiatry and Psychology Clinic. During her time there she had worked with a variety of populations, including a large number of athletes and performers. Jen transitioned to owning a private clinical therapy practice in Brookings, SD in 2024 prior to opening Athlete’s Edge Performance Consulting.
Background
Minnesota native Jen Prouty is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Mental Performance Consultant who specializes in supporting athletes in optimizing their performance while building healthy habits to use both in and out of sport.
Jen obtained her Bachelor of Science degree with an area of focus being Social Work and a minor in Education from the University of South Dakota. She then went on to continue her education at USD to get a Masters of Social Work degree in 2017. Jen currently serves as a field supervisor for MSW students/interns for the University of South Dakota.
Throughout her years as a clinical practitioner, Jen has extensive experience and training in treatment approaches that focus on behavior modification. Jen uses her Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Certification, which focus on building positive relationships and modifying behaviors, to support coaches and athletes in making important changes to increase mental performance outcomes.
Jen’s background in social work helps her support athletes through a person first approach. Jen brings a new perspective to the phrase “Life’s tough, get a helmet” by helping athletes build mental toughness in a supportive and encouraging environment to allow them to thrive in tough situations.
